On our way to our next destination we ran into a protest march led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Groups of communists starting from various points around the city were converging on Parliament to protest recent price hikes. Most of the kids were fascinated to see real communists in action. saw an article the other day saying that the maoist rebels in the northeast plan to overthrow the indian government by 2060 at the latest. and that would be violently... i see that russian prime minister putin was in new delhi when you were. russia seems to see its angle with india in providing state of the art weapons systems that the usa and europe won't provide given ties with nuclear-armed rival pakistan. but these come with an increasingly high price. the russian ambassador to india is quoted in the financial times as saying: "the days when you (india) could get weapons for grain, rice and ludhiana hosiery are gone forever."
